about
Some events in life are significant. For a farm kid, buying your very first car is certainly one of those. My dad and I went to a farm equipment auction when I was 16 and picked up an old, rusty, plain white, 4 door 1962 Pontiac for $200- hardly a sporty muscle car that would attract girls! But, she was mine, and I was proud of her. This song tries to put those emotions on record. Hope you enjoy it! By the way, the photo above is the real thing - my pride and joy!
lyrics
King of the Road
My first car was a winner, when I was just sixteen.
Just a rusty old crate by the auction gate
In a long line of rusty machines.
There wasn't much there to look at.
I heard her cough, shake, rattle & whine.
But when the bid came around, I laid my money down
And the next thing I knew, she was mine.
Couldn't believe what just happened! I was proud as I'd ever be.
And as I drove outta town, I rolled the windows right down,
Had the radio loud as could be!
Everything shook over sixty. She was one vibrating machine.
And as I'm climbing those hills, I watched the black smoke spill
Down the valley - far as I could see.
It didn't matter......
Chorus 1:
Cause she was all mine - my 62 Pontiac.
Was feeling mighty fine. I was one happy guy.
I was King of the Road - I had places to go.
It didn't matter, she got me there and back.
I was excited - for my 62 Pontiac.
When I got home, I hit the carwash - was gonna spray that engine down.
But the soap and the suds made their way to the plugs -
I had to tow her on back into town.
I painted her red like an apple. Got an 8 track, blue lights on the floor
And I shined her every night, got her looking just right
For that girl that I was waiting for.
It didn't matter.....
Chorus 2:
Cause she was all mine - my 62 Pontiac
She started every time and never looked back.
i was King of the Road - I had no place to go.
It didn't matter - she weren't a Cadillac
I was excited - for my 62 Pontiac.
Bridge:
Now there's a first time for everything
It's all part of the plan.
My first car was everything....
Turned a boy into a man.
Chorus 3:
Cause she was all mine - my 62 Pontiac.
Was working overtime, but I didn't mind.
I was King of the Road - I had places to go
Don't you worry - she got me there and back.
I was excited..........Delighted.........Ignited
I was excited - for my 62 Pontiac.

Really love the honesty in the story-telling, and the simplicity of arrangement and production in telling those stories. Favourite tracks are Just Enough Empties and What to Keep. Stickel & Son
Great album by my good friend and "blues buddy" Dr. Blu. Garry co-wrote and sang on two tracks: Never the Same and Start Over Again. Great job by all the players, writers and common friends. Stickel & Son
The slashing roots rock on “Out On the Line” always makes its way to the kind of triumphant chorus that quickens the pulse. Bandcamp New & Notable Apr 2, 2023
